MCC | You know... Either God is answering my prayers or the MCC staff is taking my words seriously, either way, I am delighted to announce that today's khutbah was pretty much completely good. Wow... Never thought I would say that about MCC. It is the season for miracles after all. Not Muslim miracles, Christian miracles, but miracles nonetheless. |

All praise is due to Allah the most gracious, the most merciful. Oh Allah please send your blessings and peace on our beloved Prophet Muhammed (S), on his family and on all his followers.
Hadith by Abu Malik al Harith, collected by Imam Muslim.
Purification is half of faith. And the phrase of Ahamdulillah fills the scale, and the phrases of Subhanallah and Alhamdulillah together fills what is between heaven and the earth. And the prayer is a light and charity is a proof and patience is brightness and the Qur'an is either a witness for you or against you. And everyone that goes out in the morning either sells himself or destroys himself.
One of the first things he said that purification is half of Iman (faith). The scholars have differed over this, over the meaning. If you don't have ablution, or wudu, you don't have half your iman since it wipes out all the minor sins.
Allah will never cause your iman to be lost, the scholars give the interpretation here that faith is salah (prayer), purification is half of the prayer, if you don't have that purification you don't have prayer.
Unfortunately many Muslims today neglect this part. When you come to the masjid you are coming to the house Gof d, to have a conversation with God, we should act like it. How do you act when you are invited somewhere or when someone in a high position invites you? You clean yourself and put perfume and take care of yourself. How do you think you should be in front of your creator?
The Prophet said not to come to the masjid if you have just eaten garlic or onion. Its not haram to eat but you cause harm to those in the masjid due to your bad breath.
What if somebody smokes right before coming into the masjid? They have bad smell, you have to be clean, this is part of tahara (cleanliness).
You have to do dhikr. Allah says, remember me and i will remember you. The difference between those who remember Allah and those who don't is like that between the living and the dead.
Someone came to ask for advice from the Prophet he told him to keep your tongue moist with the Dhikr (remembrance) of Allah.
There are those that are lazy and don't care to come to the masjid but they come to show off to show others that they are here. Dhikr is the cure for this hypocrisy. It puts sincerity and love of Allah in your heart.
Prayer is the brightness.
Allah says to establish the prayer. Perfect prayer keeps you from evil actions. The salah will guide you. When you are patient, all types of hardships and difficulties will come to you. You have to endure it. The mark is on their face, light on their face when they pray a lot, marks on their forehead from sajdah (prostration). And for those who don't pray you can see a darkness in their faces.
If you help needy people, spend for the sake of Allah, that is a proof that you are a mumin (believer) as the Nabi (Prophet) said.
To control yourself and your desires that is to have patience. Allah will test you and put you in trials but you have to show patience. Indeed he is in loss except those who do righteous deeds. Allah said. If you want Allah to be with you, you must be patient. The beginning of patience is the moment when a calamity hits you.
The Pprophet passed by a woman in the grave yard standing over the grave of her soon. The Prophet told her to be patient. She told him to leave her alone, he doesn't know her pain. The Prophet left her in peace. Someone later came and told her that was the Prophet, she felt awful and went to ask for forgiveness. When she came to his house there were no guards (unlike today, you see his humbleness) and the Prophet lost his own son Ibrahim. So he knew the pain. Whenever you lose someone you love, show patience.
When Umm Salamah's husband died, the Prophet taught her a dua, promising her that Allah will replace what she lost. Later on the Prophet married her, do you see the reward of patience?
The Qur'an will be a proof for you or against you on the day of judgment. It will be with you if you read it and follow what it says. If you hear the Qur'an and you feel something in your heart, the Qur'an will be your witness. If you hear the Qur'an recited and you want it turned off you have a sickness in your heart. Which you must correct.
In the morning you sell yourself to Allah. You are free to choose the freedom of Jannah (Heaven) or the destruction of Jahannam (Hell). But you have to free yourself.
Also, I chuckled inside when he mentioned that you can see people with light on their faces because they pray so much, they have marks on their foreheads because they are always in prostration. I know in Egypt, and I am sure in other parts of the Muslim world this may happen, but perhaps not to the extent it happens in Egypt, typically men grind their faces into their prayer mats while praying so they can have a large mark on their forehead to indicate their piety and that they are always praying. Haha... only Egyptians. |
Take care everyone!
