Ms Marvel – thought to be the first series protagonist who is female and from an Islamic background – is to be reintroduced as Kamala Khan, the teenage daughter of Pakistani immigrants who live in Jersey City.
Kamala, whose powers enable her to grow and shrink her limbs and body, is part of Marvel’s drive to reflect the diversity of its readers.
‘High school was a very vivid time in my life, so I drew heavily on those experiences – impending adulthood, dealing with school, emotionally charged friendships that are such a huge part of being a teenager,’ she said.
Just a quick note, Kamala Khan is not actually the first Muslim female superhero, and i am not referring to "The 99" comic series. Marvel actually have had a long standing Muslim female comic character named Dust. You can read about her here.
